Chairman Becerra: Decision Demonstrates Need For Fully Empaneled Supreme Court

Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (CA-34) released a statement following the announcement of a tied verdict in the case of Friedrichs v. California Teachers Association, upholding the right of public sector unions to fund collective bargaining efforts benefitting all workers:

"Today's decision by the Supreme Court upholds the right of public sector unions to defend working families. In the case at hand, the ability of workers to squarely represent their best interests in negotiations with their bosses was at stake. The Court's tied verdict, while a welcomed outcome in support of workers, clearly demonstrates the importance of having a fully empaneled Supreme Court. Only with a full Supreme Court can we give the American people a clear sense of direction on critical yet unresolved matters of national significance."
